Cost of living reality check -Oak Ridge

OK so Rent is about $1,076/month for a decent place. Poverty rate is 7.6%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $233,500, which is actually reasonable. With a population of 32,088, Oak Ridge is a smaller city. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Pros:
- Close to nature
- Lots of new development
- Good healthcare facilities

Cons:
- Hot summers
- High property taxes
- Far from major airports
Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The city has invested a lot in new development. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

I've been living here for 13 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The traffic is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..
