Oak Ridge quality of life -am I missing something?

First post here. My partner and I are Rent is about $1,076/month for a decent place. Crime rate is something to consider -Oak Ridge sits at 385.1 per 100K. With a population of 32,088, Oak Ridge is a smaller city. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. What are your go-to spots? Thanks for reading. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value job market, you'll love it. The traffic is genuinely underrated and I've found I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Seattle, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
