Planning a move to Oakbrook -neighborhoods?

Longtime lurker here, Homes are going for about $250,900 on average. Poverty rate is 0.6%, which is pretty low. The median home value here is around $250,900, which seems about average. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The weather takes some getting used to. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely tough and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

The food scene here is decent. Tons of great Vietnamese places. I love the pace of life here.
