Starting a business in Oakdale?

Anyone else feel this way? We're a young couple and You can expect to pay around $1,471 for rent here. The median home value here is around $432,800, which is pretty steep. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Let me know your thoughts. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a software engineer who relocated here from Tampa about 14 years ago. The main reasons were weather and work.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Four distinct seasons
- Close to major attractions

Cons that are real:
- Winters are long and cold
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is solid.

Socially, I love the pace of life here. Definitely worth checking out..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a marketing manager, 30, moved here 9 years ago from LA. I've lived in Fairview and Uptown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally better than expected - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited public transit options
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The school system situation is established and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for families. underrated vibes, walkable.
- Uptown: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from LA, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $80K-$100K here.

**Final verdict:**
Would recommend to anyone considering it.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I love the pace of life here. Compared to Miami it's surprisingly good.

Public transit is decent here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it was the best decision I ever made.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are surprisingly good, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Used to live on the West side, now on the North side. Completely different vibe. it's exactly what I was looking for.

I've lived in Westside for about 6 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's improved dramatically in recent years. When I first moved here from Atlanta, I was surprised by outdoor recreation. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- The cost of living scene is decent

The downsides:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Limited entertainment options

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for remote workers. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
