Living in Oakhurst -the reality

I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Crime rate is something to consider -Oakhurst sits at 174.8 per 100K. It's a a small town city with about 1,970 people. Homes are going for about $147,700 on average. The median home value here is around $147,700, which is actually reasonable. Poverty rate is 12.3%, which is around average. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Low crime in most areas
- Lots of new development
- Walkable downtown
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Traffic can be terrible
- Cold winters
- Lack of diversity
- Few job opportunities in some fields
- Limited cultural events
Cheers. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I've been living here for 9 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The outdoor recreation is hit or miss compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Eastside for 3 years. Moved from Boston for retirement. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is excellent. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 4-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. construction is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are wild for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Eastside schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Not a lot of cultural diversity. And nightlife can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 7/10. No regrets on my end.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Charlotte and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in East. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in healthcare. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally pretty good. It took about 4 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Indian.

Definitely worth checking out..

I've lived in Greenfield for about 1 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it was the best decision I ever made. When I first moved here from Tampa, I was surprised by community vibe. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- The healthcare scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Nightlife is limited

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for families. It's not for everyone but it works for us..
