Hey everyone, It's a a mid-size city city with about 438K people. Crime rate is something to consider — Oakland sits at 1,271.8 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 4.1%, which is about average. Homes are going for about $924,700 on average. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Worth the trade-offs? The city has invested a lot in new development. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.
