So, Household incomes average around $58,272 in Oakland. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Thanks!

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 10 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 3 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's pricey and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is improving.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Midtown side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from San Diego and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Uptown. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in finance. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Internet is excellent in most areas.

Weather-wise, the summers are average and winters are wild. You get used to it after the first year.

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 4 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Austin about 14 years ago. The main reasons were my partner's job and quality of life.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Limited high-paying job options

Financially, we've found it hit or miss compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are stable, gas is excellent.

Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. No regrets on my end..
