Rent vs buy in Oakleaf Plantation -what makes sense?
Longtime lurker here, Household incomes average around $110,521 in Oakleaf Plantation. It's a a smaller city city with about 30,737 people. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Am I overthinking this? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Weather-wise, the summers are decent and winters are established. You get used to it after the first year.

I've been living here for 8 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The job market is better than expected compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Chicago and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Downtown. It's decent for what you get.
Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in retail you might struggle.
People: Generally solid. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Happy to answer more specific questions..

Used to live on the Springfield side, now on the Westside side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

I work in government here and it's exactly what I was looking for. The job market for my field is tough. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

My experience has been mostly positive. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. The only thing I'd watch out for is outdoor recreation. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's improved dramatically in recent years. Compared to Austin it's decent.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. it was the best decision I ever made. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Nashville about 14 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Winters are long and cold
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are affordable, gas is average.
Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Bought a house here in 2019 and I genuinely enjoy living here. Property values have gone down slightly since then.
