Random thought, Poverty rate is 2.7%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 58--F, so the weather is moderate. Crime rate is something to consider -Oakville sits at 490.9 per 100K. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Am I wrong here? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 9 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. When I first moved here from Nashville, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- The community vibe scene is surprisingly good
The downsides:
- Limited public transit options
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for families. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Used to live on the Sunset side, now on the Riverside side. Completely different vibe. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Denver about 10 years ago. The main reasons were family and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Limited shopping options
- Bugs and humidity in summer
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are wild, gas is hit or miss.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Happy to answer more specific questions..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Oak Park for 3 years. Moved from Chicago for cost of living. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.
**Employment:**
consulting is strong here. consulting is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is tough - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Limited public transit options. Limited shopping options. And job market can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 9/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now.
