Raising a family in Ocala -thoughts?

So, I'm single, late 50s, and Average temperature is around 71--F, so it's warm year-round. Crime rate is something to consider -Ocala sits at 809.1 per 100K. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. What would you do? Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The suburbs are where most families end up. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Came here for retirement and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The school system is honestly tough and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

I've lived in Old Town for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Denver, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- The community vibe scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Far from beaches/mountains

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Hope this helps!.
