Worst things about Ocala nobody talks about

Alright, I'm a remote worker and Rent is about $1,230/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 71--F, so it's warm year-round. With a population of 64,903, Ocala is a smaller city. Poverty rate is 15.0%, which is around average. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. It's not perfect, but the community is solid.

Pros:
- Nice parks and trails
- Close to nature
- Diverse community
- Walkable downtown

Cons:
- Limited public transit
- Rising rent prices
- Homelessness issues downtown
The weather takes some getting used to. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The weather takes some getting used to. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've lived in Eastside for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it exceeded my expectations. When I first moved here from Charlotte, I was surprised by walkability. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good airport with direct flights
- The outdoor recreation scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Winters are long and cold
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Hope this helps!.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is safety. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. it's not perfect but it works for me. Compared to San Francisco it's improving.

Came here for work and stayed because it exceeded my expectations. The cost of living is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Bought a house here in 2016 and it's not perfect but it works for me. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

Hot take but it was the best decision I ever made. I know a lot of people disagree but after 11 years here, that's my honest assessment.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 11 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is weather. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into running, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Eastside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

We moved here with our family and it exceeded my expectations. Schools in The Heights area are average. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a chef who relocated here from Boston about 1 years ago. The main reasons were work and family.

Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Dating scene is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are pricey, gas is better than expected.

Socially, it's been a really good experience overall. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.

I've been here 2 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is better than expected.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Riverside side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Hope this helps!.

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I have mixed feelings honestly.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in The Heights for 3 years. Moved from Portland for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 2-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
government is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is improving - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. The Heights schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Winters are long and cold. Road conditions need improvement. And community vibe can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For families, I'd say this is a 6/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
