Moving from St. Louis to Occidental next month

Random thought, With a population of 1,162, Occidental is a small town. Household incomes average around $104,044 in Occidental. Homes are going for about $1,204,000 on average. It's a a small town city with about 1,162 people. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Am I wrong here? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. I've lived in The Heights for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Pittsburgh, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- The housing market scene is hit or miss

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Road conditions need improvement

Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely tough and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. traffic is completely different here. And Can feel isolated.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
