First post here. I'm a college student here and Homes are going for about $702,000 on average. With a population of 173K, Oceanside is a mid-size city. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value school system, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely decent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (Westside) is developing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The weather is genuinely hit or miss and I've found the quality of life is solid. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. pet-friendliness is completely different here. And Winters are long and cold.

My experience has been mostly positive. it was the best decision I ever made. The only thing I'd watch out for is food scene. Other than that, Happy to answer more specific questions..
