What surprised you most about Oceanside?

Hey, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and Median household income is $145,282, which feels pretty solid for the area. The unemployment rate is 4.0%, which is pretty low. Crime rate is something to consider -Oceanside sits at 119.0 per 100K. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Is this normal for Oceanside? The city has invested a lot in new development. The city has invested a lot in new development. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The suburbs are where most families end up. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Uptown. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in construction. If you're in finance you might struggle.

People: Generally better than expected. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
