Remote worker thinking about Ocoee

Random thought, I'm a nurse at the local hospital and With a population of 47,885, Ocoee is a smaller city. Median household income is $93,292, which feels pretty solid for the area. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What do you all think? Appreciate any input.

We moved here with our family and I genuinely enjoy living here. Schools in Riverside area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Highland for 11 years. Moved from New York for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is improving. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
I have mixed feelings honestly. The outdoor scene is hit or miss - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Highland schools are improving. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Traffic during rush hour is rough. Road conditions need improvement. And healthcare can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 7/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are excellent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 10 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Eastside. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in consulting. If you're in consulting you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: tough. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 15 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Oak Park. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in legal. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: surprisingly good. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Bought a house here in 2024 and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Property values have gone up a bit since then.

I've lived in Old Town for about 14 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's been a really good experience overall. When I first moved here from Chicago, I was surprised by safety. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good schools in most areas
- The food scene scene is tough

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 5/10 for remote workers. Hope this helps!.

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.
