Hey, I'm a 29-year-old nurse and Poverty rate is 11.6%, which is around average. Household incomes average around $73,030 in Odessa. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Any advice would be great. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The suburbs are where most families end up. Property taxes are high but you get good services. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem pretty good.
I've been here 15 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into running, this place is average.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The West side vs the Old Town side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Portland and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in hospitality. If you're in government you might struggle.
People: Generally decent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: average. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.
Feel free to reach out with questions..

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is traffic. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Worth doing your research before committing.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Dallas about 5 years ago. The main reasons were weather and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are growing, gas is pretty good.
Socially, the quality of life is solid. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a data analyst, 41, moved here 4 years ago from Austin. I've lived in Uptown and Midtown, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Cost of living is very reasonable
2. Friendly community, easy to meet people
3. Lots of family-friendly activities
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Traffic during rush hour is rough
2. Can feel isolated
3. The pet-friendliness situation is wild and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for retirees. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- Midtown: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Austin, everything felt better than expected. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is established. You can live comfortably on $100K-$110K here.
**Final verdict:**
It's not for everyone but it works for us.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I'm a social worker who relocated here from Chicago about 12 years ago. The main reasons were work and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
Cons that are real:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are manageable, gas is decent.
Socially, I love the pace of life here. Definitely worth checking out..
