Random thought, Born and raised here. Homes are going for about $305,100 on average. Crime rate is something to consider -O'Fallon sits at 127.2 per 100K. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. What do you all think? Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The weather takes some getting used to. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: The market is competitive but not impossible. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Cedar Grove. It's better than expected for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in real estate you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 15 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like Southern.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Hot take but it's not perfect but it works for me. I know a lot of people disagree but after 5 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a accountant who relocated here from Austin about 8 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and retirement.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Close to major attractions
Cons that are real:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are stable, gas is tough.
Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 4 years and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The thing nobody mentions is pet-friendliness. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The North side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
