Been meaning to ask this. Household incomes average around $107,203 in O'Fallon. Median household income is $107,203, which feels pretty solid for the area. It's a a smaller city city with about 92,697 people. With a population of 92,697, O'Fallon is a smaller city. Average temperature is around 55--F, so expect cold winters. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.
Pros:
- Friendly people
- Growing food scene
- Good healthcare facilities
- Active local events
Cons:
- Limited dining options
- High property taxes
- Lack of diversity
- Boring for young people
Thoughts? Appreciate any input. The food scene here is surprisingly good. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.
I've been here 15 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's established and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into biking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Hope this helps!.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a physical therapist who relocated here from Denver about 5 years ago. The main reasons were school and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Property taxes are high
Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are affordable, gas is underrated.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. No regrets on my end..

That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into golfing, this place is better than expected.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Highland side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been living here for 10 years and I'd say it was the best decision I ever made. The job market is pretty good compared to other places I've lived. Overall Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Westside for 7 years. Moved from Tampa for a fresh start. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is surprisingly good. We bought in 2016 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals.
**Employment:**
construction is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
I love the pace of life here. The outdoor scene is solid - we have national forests within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Westside schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Chain restaurants dominate. Limited shopping options. And traffic can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For retirees, I'd say this is a 7/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Hot take but it's improved dramatically in recent years. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Compared to Denver it's challenging.
