Best kept secrets of Oildale, CA

Been meaning to ask this. My partner and I are It's a a smaller city city with about 34,971 people. You can expect to pay around $1,220 for rent here. Median household income is $49,622, which feels on the lower side for the area. Poverty rate is 23.5%, which is higher than I expected. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want school system, then yeah this place is great. But if housing market matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Hot take but it exceeded my expectations. I know a lot of people disagree but after 2 years here, that's my honest assessment.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Pine Hills for about 2 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

it's not perfect but it works for me. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by food scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Good schools in most areas
- Active local events and festivals
- The nightlife scene is surprisingly good

The downsides:
- Traffic during rush hour is rough
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Overall I'd rate it 6/10 for young professionals. Would recommend to anyone considering it..
