Day-to-day life in Oildale, CA

Anyone else feel this way? I relocated for work and Poverty rate is 23.5%, which is higher than I expected. Crime rate is something to consider -Oildale sits at 456.7 per 100K. The unemployment rate is 5.3%, which is about average. The median home value here is around $225,000, which is actually reasonable. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The city has invested a lot in new development. The food scene here is surprisingly good. The weather takes some getting used to. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. traffic used to be much established but now it's solid.

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 2-bedroom. I genuinely enjoy living here. Compared to Tampa it's excellent.
