Housing market in Okemos right now

So, Military spouse here. Crime rate is something to consider -Okemos sits at 278.0 per 100K. Household incomes average around $97,603 in Okemos. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Am I wrong here? I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. The suburbs are where most families end up. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is improving in most areas.

Used to live on the West side, now on the Old Town side. Completely different vibe. I genuinely enjoy living here.

Bought a house here in 2021 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

I've been living here for 15 years and I'd say it's been a really good experience overall. The school system is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

Came here for weather and stayed because I genuinely enjoy living here. The walkability is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem better than expected.

I've been here 10 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is job market. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Definitely worth checking out..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely decent and I've found it's improved dramatically in recent years. My neighborhood (South) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Boston, be prepared for the culture shock. walkability is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I'm still on the fence after all this time. Internet is solid in most areas.
