Job hunting in Oklahoma City — tips?

First post here. Born and raised here. Rent is about $1,083/month for a decent place. Homes are going for about $215,100 on average. With a population of 689K, Oklahoma City is a major city. The unemployment rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast — some good, some not so much. Has anyone dealt with this? The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look.

As someone who grew up here, the quality of life is solid. A lot has changed in the past few years though. housing market used to be much wild but now it's decent.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 15 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's stable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Westside side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I work in finance here and it's exactly what I was looking for. The job market for my field is challenging. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

I've been here 6 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the traffic is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is tough.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in North. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in legal. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Hope this helps!.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Raleigh and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Lakewood. It's better than expected for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in engineering. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally improving. It took about 3 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Public transit is underrated here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.

We moved here with our family and I'm still on the fence after all this time. Schools in Greenfield area are challenging. Kids love it here.

Used to live on the Cedar Grove side, now on the West side. Completely different vibe. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad.
