Oklahoma City's biggest problem nobody talks about
I just moved to Edmond from Salt Lake City. I saw that rent in Edmond is now /mo which is making me nervous. The weather took some getting used to but I actually love it now. What's your experience been?

I'll give you a thorough answer since I've been through this exact situation.
I moved to Bricktown from Omaha about 11 years ago. Initially I missed home a lot. But after settling in, The suburbs vs city debate here is real..
A few things I'd recommend:
- Check out Bricktown and Norman area for housing
- Join local Facebook/Reddit groups for your neighborhood
- Talk to your neighbors - people are friendlier than you'd expect
The biggest adjustment was walkability. Nightlife is decent if you know where to go.. Overall I'd give Oklahoma City a 6/10 for couples.

Gonna share a detailed perspective since most replies are pretty surface-level.
I'm a young professional in Paseo Arts District. Been here since 2022. The food scene in {hood} is honestly incredible..
Neighborhood-wise, Paseo Arts District has really evolved in the past few years. Moore is the up-and-coming spot right now. Deep Deuce is where I'd look if budget is a concern.
Job market for construction: great. For legal: quiet.
People here are friendlier than I expected coming from {other}.

OK let me break this down from someone who's been here a while.
Bethany vs Mesta Park: completely different vibes. Bethany is more decent with a younger crowd and nightlife. Mesta Park is affordable and better for retirees.
Cost-wise, expect /mo minimum for anything decent in Bethany. In Mesta Park you can find stuff for /mo.
People here are friendlier than I expected coming from {other}.. Cost of living is {col_feel} compared to where I came from.

Alright, I'm going to write the reply I wish someone had written for me when I was researching Oklahoma City.
Background: 26, empty nester, moved from Raleigh 6 years ago for work. Currently in Midtown.
**Housing:**
The market is improving right now. We went with Midtown because it felt safe. Paid /mo starting out, now at /mo. If I could do it again, I'd look at Bricktown - it's growing and the value is better.
**Work:**
engineering jobs are growing here. I was worried coming from Raleigh but the market is solid. Salary-wise, expect decent if you negotiate.
**Social Life:**
This was my biggest worry. First 8 months were tough. Then I found my people through a co-working space. Now I have a solid group. Oklahoma City people are genuine once you break through.
**Day to Day:**
- Groceries: manageable
- Traffic: manageable if you avoid rush hour
- Dining out: improving rapidly
- Entertainment: you make your own fun here
**Would I move here again?**
People here are friendlier than I expected coming from {other}.. For families, I'd give it a 7/10.

My experience has been different actually. I found that The airport connections are {adj} which matters if you travel.. Maybe it depends on which part of Oklahoma City you're in.

We pay /mo in Edmond for a 2-bed and it's steep but the location is great. Honestly the biggest downside is {downside}.

Let me give you the perspective nobody asked for but everyone needs.
I've lived in Bricktown, Automobile Alley, and currently in Deep Deuce. Each one feels like a different city honestly.
Rent comparison:
- Bricktown: /mo for a 3-bed
- Automobile Alley: about /mo
- Deep Deuce: /mo but improving
The food scene in {hood} is honestly incredible.. The key is finding your neighborhood. Once you do, Oklahoma City really clicks.
