Hi all, You can expect to pay around $1,314 for rent here. Poverty rate is 4.0%, which is pretty low. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Has anyone dealt with this? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Property taxes are high but you get good services.

As someone who grew up here, I have mixed feelings honestly. A lot has changed in the past few years though. nightlife used to be much competitive but now it's hit or miss.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value cultural scene, you'll love it. The food scene is genuinely tough and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (West) is affordable and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Houston, be prepared for the culture shock. healthcare is completely different here. And Homeless population growing downtown.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in Springfield. It's average for what you get.
Jobs: The market is developing right now, especially in tech. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally excellent. It took about 17 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like craft beer.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..
