Anyone else feel this way? I'm retired and Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. Anyone in a similar situation? The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Hope this helps!.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. housing market used to be much established but now it's pretty good.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a HR manager who relocated here from Portland about 3 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- Good internet infrastructure
Cons that are real:
- Urban sprawl is real
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it underrated compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are competitive, gas is excellent.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Definitely worth checking out..

I'm a electrician who relocated here from Phoenix about 5 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and cost of living.
Pros I've experienced:
- Cost of living is very reasonable
- Diverse dining options
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited entertainment options
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. Groceries are pricey, gas is decent.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. Hope this helps!.

Used to live on the Sunset side, now on the North side. Completely different vibe. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value dating scene, you'll love it. The outdoor recreation is genuinely decent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Lakewood) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from San Diego, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
