Pros and cons of Olney after 4 years

Longtime lurker here, I'm single, late 30s, and It's a a smaller city city with about 36,000 people. Homes are going for about $632,400 on average. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Let me know your thoughts.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The public transit is genuinely better than expected and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Austin, be prepared for the culture shock. job market is completely different here. And Limited public transit options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.

I've been here 5 years and I genuinely enjoy living here. The thing nobody mentions is community vibe. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the cultural scene is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Riverside side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Happy to answer more specific questions..
