The unemployment rate is 4.3%, which is about average. Household incomes average around $76,930 in Olympia. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. Should I be concerned? The city has invested a lot in new development. The suburbs are where most families end up. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem improving.
I've been here 9 years and it's been a really good experience overall. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's wild and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the cost of living is legit. And if you're into skiing, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The South side vs the Sunset side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Definitely worth checking out..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Definitely worth checking out..
