Hey, I'm a teacher here and It's a a smaller city city with about 55,583 people. Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Property taxes are high but you get good services. I'd say it's better for families than young singles.

I've lived in Springfield for about 3 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I'm still on the fence after all this time. When I first moved here from San Diego, I was surprised by cost of living. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- The food scene scene is tough
The downsides:
- Not a lot of cultural diversity
- Dating scene is rough
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for retirees. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

Came here for work and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The traffic is honestly improving and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.
