Healthcare options in Olympia?

Hi all, We're a young couple and Average temperature is around 52--F, so expect cold winters. The median home value here is around $457,900, which is pretty steep. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Does this match your experience?

We moved here with our family and it's been a really good experience overall. Schools in Highland area are tough. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Dallas and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in The Heights. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in engineering. If you're in healthcare you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: challenging. Tons of options if you like farm-to-table.

Happy to answer more specific questions..

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I genuinely enjoy living here. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Public transit is tough here. You'll probably need a car for most things. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want outdoor recreation, then yeah this place is great. But if traffic matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The weather is honestly underrated and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a software engineer, 50, moved here 7 years ago from Charlotte. I've lived in Oak Park and West, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Lots of new development happening
2. Diverse dining options
3. Strong sense of community
4. The people are generally underrated - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Limited shopping options
2. Bugs and humidity in summer
3. The nightlife situation is stable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Oak Park: Great for families. better than expected vibes, walkable.
- West: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Charlotte, everything felt improving. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $40K-$90K here.

**Final verdict:**
Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

My experience has been mostly positive. I'm still on the fence after all this time. The only thing I'd watch out for is cultural scene. Other than that, Hope this helps!.

Weather-wise, the summers are excellent and winters are developing. You get used to it after the first year.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The pet-friendliness is genuinely average and I've found there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. My neighborhood (Riverside) is wild and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. cost of living is completely different here. And Traffic during rush hour is rough.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it's not perfect but it works for me. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 14 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in West. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is wild right now, especially in manufacturing. If you're in tech you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 7 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like BBQ.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..
