Hey, Poverty rate is 10.2%, which is around average. Crime rate is something to consider -Olympia sits at 476.7 per 100K. It's a a smaller city city with about 55,583 people. The median home value here is around $457,900, which is pretty steep. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What would you do? Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Property taxes are high but you get good services. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 12 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is nightlife. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the dating scene is legit. And if you're into kayaking, this place is pretty good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Oak Park side vs the Pine Hills side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
No regrets on my end..

We moved here with our family and it's exactly what I was looking for. Schools in Uptown area are decent. Kids love it here.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a real estate agent who relocated here from Dallas about 1 years ago. The main reasons were cost of living and quality of life.
Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Good airport with direct flights
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are competitive, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, it exceeded my expectations. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are improving, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.
