Alright, need some real talk here. I work remote and chose Omaha specifically for the lifestyle. Unemployment at 2.9% is {unemp_feel}. Honestly the biggest downside is road conditions. Am I being unrealistic?

I'd highly recommend checking out Papillion. I don't understand why more people don't talk about {hood}.. Plus the food options around there are decent.

Alright, I'm going to write the reply I wish someone had written for me when I was researching Omaha.
Background: 26, remote worker, moved from San Francisco 11 years ago for cost of living. Currently in La Vista.
**Housing:**
The market is excellent right now. We went with La Vista because it was walkable. Paid /mo starting out, now at /mo. If I could do it again, I'd look at Happy Hollow - it's growing and the value is better.
**Work:**
government jobs are decent here. I was worried coming from San Francisco but the market is solid. Salary-wise, expect about 10-15% less than coastal cities.
**Social Life:**
This was my biggest worry. First 9 months were tough. Then I found my people through a running club. Now I have a solid group. Omaha people are friendly once you break through.
**Day to Day:**
- Groceries: reasonable
- Traffic: manageable if you avoid rush hour
- Dining out: amazing variety
- Entertainment: plenty to do on weekends
**Would I move here again?**
People here are friendlier than I expected coming from {other}.. For couples, I'd give it a 9/10.
Feel free to DM me with specific questions - happy to help fellow newcomers.

Great question. Here's my honest take after 9 years:
The good:
- Great food scene
- Good schools in certain areas
- Good airport
The not-so-good:
- Hard to date here
- Tourist crowds
Nightlife is decent if you know where to go.. I'd say for young professionals, Omaha is pretty good. Feel free to ask specifics.

OK since this keeps coming up, here's my definitive Omaha guide from someone who's been here way too long.
**Neighborhoods ranked (my opinion):**
Tier 1 (if you can afford it):
- Bellevue: safest area, good schools
- Aksarben: solid value for the location
Tier 2 (best value):
- Happy Hollow: underrated and affordable
- Field Club: good schools, safe streets
Avoid (unless you know what you're doing):
- I won't name names but do your research on anything significantly below market rate
**Cost Reality Check:**
- 1-bed decent area: /mo
- 2-bed decent area: /mo
- Groceries for 2: /mo
- Car insurance: great compared to national avg
- Utilities: /mo average
**The Honest Truth:**
Nightlife is decent if you know where to go.. Omaha is affordable but it's not for everyone. If you value affordability over walkability, you'll love it. If it's the other way around, maybe consider Austin.
Feel free to ask specifics.

Honestly it depends on what you prioritize. If nightlife matters most, then yeah Omaha is great. But if you need beach access, might want to look at Rockbrook instead.

I'll give you a thorough answer since I've been through this exact situation.
I moved to Papillion from Omaha about 11 years ago. Initially I missed home a lot. But after settling in, I keep discovering new spots even after {yr} years..
A few things I'd recommend:
- Check out Papillion and Happy Hollow for housing
- Explore beyond the popular neighborhoods
- Visit during different seasons if you can
The biggest adjustment was transit. The suburbs vs city debate here is real.. Overall I'd give Omaha a 8/10 for remote workers.

**Work:**
logistics jobs are decent here. I was worried coming from Atlanta but the market is mixed. Salary-wise, expect it varies wildly by field.
