Top 5 things I love about Omaha

So, I'm a remote worker and It's a a mid-size city city with about 488K people. With a population of 488K, Omaha is a mid-size city. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Anyone in a similar situation?

Came here for weather and stayed because I love the pace of life here. The cost of living is honestly surprisingly good and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 3 years ago from Salt Lake City and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Lots of new construction which should help. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Eastside. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in marketing. If you're in hospitality you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 9 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Asian.

No regrets on my end..

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from Seattle about 13 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Limited entertainment options

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. The market is competitive but not impossible. Groceries are affordable, gas is hit or miss.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 11 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's affordable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the walkability is legit. And if you're into fishing, this place is decent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Lakewood side vs the Springfield side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are decent, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

The food scene here is better than expected. Tons of great Mexican places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.
