Working remotely from Omaha — my experience

I've been working remotely from Omaha for 2 years now. Here's my take:

The pace of life here is perfect for remote work. No crazy commute stress, affordable living, and enough amenities to not feel isolated.

Cost of living: pretty reasonable
Internet: Fiber available in most areas — no complaints
Coworking spaces: A few good ones downtown

If you're looking for a place to WFH, Omaha is a solid choice.

I've lived in Downtown for 12 years and it's decent, has its pros and cons.

I'd add that healthcare options are better than most cities this size. Otherwise spot on!

Traffic is the worst part honestly. But if you live near work it's fine.

If you can afford it, Old Town is the best place to live. Period.

For families, I'd recommend looking at Northside. Schools are rated well and it's quiet.

Coming from Boston, the cost of living difference is noticeable. Groceries and gas are slightly more expensive but housing makes up for it.

Don't sleep on Riverside. It's up and coming and still affordable.

Check out the Midtown area. Way more affordable and still close to everything.

Rent tip: look for places in winter. Prices drop and there's more availability.

As someone who moved here from New York, I can confirm most of this. The weather surprised me the most.
