Cost of living reality check -Oneonta

First post here. My family moved here when I was a kid. With a population of 14,467, Oneonta is a small town. The median home value here is around $187,800, which is actually reasonable. Median household income is $65,031, which feels about average for the area. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The city has invested a lot in new development.

Pros:
- Affordable cost of living
- Great weather
- Good job market
- Lots of new development
- Good airport connections

Cons:
- Limited dining options
- High property taxes
- Poor road conditions
- Mosquitoes and humidity
Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. The suburbs are where most families end up. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.
