Housing market in Oneonta right now

We have two kids and Rent is about $986/month for a decent place. Household incomes average around $65,031 in Oneonta. You can expect to pay around $986 for rent here. With a population of 14,467, Oneonta is a small town. The suburbs are where most families end up. The city has invested a lot in new development. What neighborhoods would you suggest? Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

I've been living here for 5 years and I'd say I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The weather is excellent compared to other places I've lived. Overall It's not for everyone but it works for us..

The food scene here is challenging. Tons of great craft beer places. I'm still on the fence after all this time.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from New York about 10 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.

Pros I've experienced:
- Low crime in most neighborhoods
- Affordable housing options
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Summers can be brutally hot
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are established, gas is pretty good.

Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value pet-friendliness, you'll love it. The school system is genuinely tough and I've found I'm still on the fence after all this time. My neighborhood (Meadowbrook) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Tampa, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Limited high-paying job options.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The housing market is genuinely pretty good and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (South) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Denver, be prepared for the culture shock. community vibe is completely different here. And Rising rent and home prices.
