Is Opa-locka still affordable?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but My family moved here when I was a kid. Median household income is $31,680, which feels on the lower side for the area. Average temperature is around 77--F, so it's warm year-round. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The suburbs are where most families end up. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Property taxes are high but you get good services. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Downtown has improved a lot in recent years. The city has invested a lot in new development.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 11 years ago from Austin and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Cedar Grove. It's surprisingly good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in retail. If you're in government you might struggle.

People: Generally average. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: decent. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I work in real estate here and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The job market for my field is excellent. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

We moved here with our family and it was the best decision I ever made. Schools in Sunset area are better than expected. Kids love it here.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem tough.

I've been here 13 years and I have mixed feelings honestly. The thing nobody mentions is housing market. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into camping, this place is solid.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 12 years ago from Baltimore and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in South. It's average for what you get.

Jobs: The market is competitive right now, especially in real estate. If you're in education you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 18 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like craft beer.

No regrets on my end..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Maple Ridge for 5 years. Moved from Charlotte for work. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2020 at k and it's now worth up significantly than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable.

**Employment:**
marketing is strong here. legal is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are manageable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's exactly what I was looking for. The outdoor scene is decent - we have desert landscapes within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Maple Ridge schools are better than expected. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Chain restaurants dominate. And healthcare can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For remote workers, I'd say this is a 5/10. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.
