Anyone else love living in Orange City?

Not sure if this has been asked before, but I work in education and Rent is about $1,540/month for a decent place. Average temperature is around 73--F, so it's warm year-round. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. Worth the trade-offs? It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 4 years ago from Seattle and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Fairview. It's decent for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in legal. If you're in real estate you might struggle.

People: Generally underrated. It took about 11 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: hit or miss. Tons of options if you like sushi.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in North. It's pretty good for what you get.

Jobs: The market is established right now, especially in finance. If you're in construction you might struggle.

People: Generally excellent. It took about 13 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like Southern.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.

Background: I'm a project manager, 29, moved here 6 years ago from Portland. I've lived in Uptown and Maple Ridge, and traveled to most parts of the metro.

**What I love:**
1. Friendly community, easy to meet people
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Good internet infrastructure
4. The people are generally improving - I found my community within the first year

**What I don't love:**
1. Winters are long and cold
2. Nightlife is limited
3. The outdoor recreation situation is manageable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Uptown: Great for retirees. pretty good vibes, walkable.
- Maple Ridge: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Portland, everything felt hit or miss. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is reasonable. You can live comfortably on $90K-$110K here.

**Final verdict:**

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Cedar Grove for 3 years. Moved from Charlotte for quality of life. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is decent. We bought in 2022 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
manufacturing is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are competitive for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's not perfect but it works for me. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have state parks within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Cedar Grove schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Rising rent and home prices. Far from beaches/mountains. And job market can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**

I work in finance here and I'm still on the fence after all this time. The job market for my field is pretty good. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
