Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from San Diego about 2 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Nice parks and green spaces
- Active local events and festivals
Cons that are real:
- Homeless population growing downtown
- Far from beaches/mountains
Financially, we've found it pretty good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is average.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Hope this helps!.

- Four distinct seasons
- Strong sense of community
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Can feel isolated
Financially, we've found it average compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are manageable, gas is pretty good.
Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem average.
I've been here 2 years and it was the best decision I ever made. The thing nobody mentions is food scene. It's competitive and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the school system is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is challenging.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The The Heights side vs the Fairview side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Came here for cost of living and stayed because it's not perfect but it works for me. The traffic is honestly decent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
