Cost of living reality check -Orange

Been meaning to ask this. I'm a 37-year-old writer and Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. What are your go-to spots?

Moved here from Salt Lake City about 2 years ago. there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. Still getting used to nightlife but No regrets on my end..

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. cultural scene used to be much manageable but now it's hit or miss.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, it's improved dramatically in recent years. Hope this helps!.

Bought a house here in 2016 and I love the pace of life here. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I love the pace of life here. Internet is average in most areas.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem solid.

I've been here 6 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is outdoor recreation. It's developing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the healthcare is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is average.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Sunset side vs the Cedar Grove side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

No regrets on my end..

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is pet-friendliness. Other than that, Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been here 15 years and it's improved dramatically in recent years. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's manageable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the housing market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is tough.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Uptown side vs the East side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The cost of living is genuinely challenging and I've found it exceeded my expectations. My neighborhood (The Heights) is reasonable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from New York, be prepared for the culture shock. nightlife is completely different here. And Urban sprawl is real.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
