Is Orangeburg a good place to live?
Longtime lurker here, Military spouse here. The median home value here is around $145,000, which is actually reasonable. Median household income is $33,066, which feels on the lower side for the area. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Worth the trade-offs? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The city has invested a lot in new development. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The suburbs are where most families end up. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. Honestly, I think it's a great place if you know where to look. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. I'd say it's better for families than young singles. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. The weather takes some getting used to. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.
