OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 7 years ago from New York and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Older homes are where the value is. We're paying /mo for a 4-bed in Midtown. It's hit or miss for what you get.
Jobs: The market is stable right now, especially in legal. If you're in education you might struggle.
People: Generally challenging. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: better than expected. Tons of options if you like Mexican.
Would recommend to anyone considering it..

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a HR manager, 49, moved here 10 years ago from Phoenix. I've lived in Westside and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Decent public transit for the size
2. Lots of new development happening
3. Affordable housing options
4. The people are generally challenging - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Rising rent and home prices
2. Far from beaches/mountains
3. The nightlife situation is pricey and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Westside: Great for retirees. excellent vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Phoenix, everything felt average. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are wild. Gas is affordable. You can live comfortably on $50K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Hope this helps!. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Hot take but I love the pace of life here. I know a lot of people disagree but after 6 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a writer who relocated here from Minneapolis about 12 years ago. The main reasons were a job opportunity and weather.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good healthcare facilities
- Strong job market in several industries
- Affordable housing options
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Not very walkable outside downtown
Financially, we've found it improving compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is surprisingly good.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Renting here right now, paying about /mo for a 3-bedroom. it was the best decision I ever made. Compared to Chicago it's underrated.

As someone who grew up here, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. A lot has changed in the past few years though. healthcare used to be much established but now it's decent.

I'd say the biggest thing people don't talk about is weather. it exceeded my expectations. Worth doing your research before committing.
