Moving from Miami to Oreland next month

So, I'm a college student here and The median home value here is around $401,000, which is pretty steep. Average temperature is around 54--F, so expect cold winters. Rent is about $1,182/month for a decent place. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. The food scene here is surprisingly good. Is this normal for Oreland? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. The city has invested a lot in new development. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus.

Hot take but there are trade-offs but the good outweighs the bad. I know a lot of people disagree but after 8 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a nurse who relocated here from Denver about 7 years ago. The main reasons were family and a job opportunity.

Pros I've experienced:
- Lots of new development happening
- Active local events and festivals
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Limited shopping options

Financially, we've found it tough compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are pricey, gas is pretty good.

Socially, it's exactly what I was looking for. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Public transit is pretty good here. You'll probably need a car for most things. it's improved dramatically in recent years.
