Biggest downsides of living in Orland Hills?

I'm retired and The unemployment rate is 3.7%, which is pretty low. Average temperature is around 51--F, so expect cold winters. Household incomes average around $118,281 in Orland Hills. With a population of 6,758, Orland Hills is a small town. Rent is about $1,373/month for a decent place. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level.

Pros:
- Great weather
- Low crime in most areas
- Close to nature
- Easy commute
- Good internet infrastructure

Cons:
- Lack of diversity
- Chain restaurants dominate
- Not enough green space

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a lawyer who relocated here from Dallas about 8 years ago. The main reasons were work and retirement.

Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Lots of family-friendly activities

Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Dating scene is rough

Financially, we've found it decent compared to where we came from. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. Groceries are wild, gas is better than expected.

Socially, I genuinely enjoy living here. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

We moved here with our family and it's improved dramatically in recent years. Schools in South area are hit or miss. Kids love it here.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from Houston and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Greenfield. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is growing right now, especially in government. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally decent. It took about 16 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: pretty good. Tons of options if you like Mexican.

It's not for everyone but it works for us..
