Remote worker thinking about Orland Park

Not sure if this has been asked before, but The unemployment rate is 2.8%, which is pretty low. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. Appreciate any input. Property taxes are high but you get good services. The weather takes some getting used to. The city has invested a lot in new development.

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. it was the best decision I ever made. Internet is better than expected in most areas.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are average, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

I've lived in Old Town for about 8 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I genuinely enjoy living here. When I first moved here from Austin, I was surprised by dating scene. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Decent public transit for the size
- Active local events and festivals
- The healthcare scene is pretty good

The downsides:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Chain restaurants dominate

Overall I'd rate it 7/10 for singles. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

Bought a house here in 2023 and it exceeded my expectations. Property values have gone down slightly since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.

I've been here 7 years and it's exactly what I was looking for. The thing nobody mentions is cultural scene. It's reasonable and it affects daily life more than you'd think.

That said, the public transit is legit. And if you're into running, this place is excellent.

Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Pine Hills side vs the North side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.

Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.

I've been in Greenfield for 8 years. Moved from Baltimore for my partner's job. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is underrated. We bought in 2015 at k and it's now worth about the same than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. The market is competitive but not impossible.

**Employment:**
healthcare is strong here. retail is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are pricey for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's improved dramatically in recent years. The outdoor scene is better than expected - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Greenfield schools are surprisingly good. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Summers can be brutally hot. Limited high-paying job options. And public transit can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 8/10. Give it a chance - it might surprise you.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Came here for work and stayed because it's been a really good experience overall. The job market is honestly challenging and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
