First post here. I'm originally from Omaha and Rent is about $1,332/month for a decent place. With a population of 43,514, Ormond Beach is a smaller city. Property taxes are high but you get good services. Should I be concerned?

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are solid, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Alright, I'll give you the full rundown since I see a lot of surface-level answers here.
I've been in Oak Park for 10 years. Moved from Minneapolis for weather. Here's my honest, detailed take:
**Housing:**
The market right now is tough. We bought in 2023 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 3-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.
**Employment:**
hospitality is strong here. finance is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are established for the area.
**Quality of Life:**
it was the best decision I ever made. The outdoor scene is excellent - we have beaches within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.
**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Oak Park schools are hit or miss. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.
**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Nightlife is limited. Road conditions need improvement. And food scene can be frustrating.
**Bottom line:**
For couples, I'd say this is a 5/10. Feel free to reach out with questions.. Feel free to ask specific questions - happy to help.

Bought a house here in 2015 and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Property values have gone up significantly since then.

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem decent.
I've been here 2 years and I love the pace of life here. The thing nobody mentions is healthcare. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the safety is legit. And if you're into mountain biking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Highland side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

I've been living here for 3 years and I'd say I have mixed feelings honestly. The school system is improving compared to other places I've lived. Overall Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've been here 13 years and it's not perfect but it works for me. The thing nobody mentions is cost of living. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the weather is legit. And if you're into hiking, this place is surprisingly good.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Downtown side vs the The Heights side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
Good luck with whatever you decide..

I've lived in North for about 5 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.
I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. When I first moved here from Baltimore, I was surprised by weather. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.
A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Strong job market in several industries
- The cultural scene scene is solid
The downsides:
- Property taxes are high
- Can feel isolated
Overall I'd rate it 8/10 for young professionals. Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..
