Considering Orono vs Orlando -help me decide

Alright, I'm a teacher here and Poverty rate is 3.1%, which is pretty low. The unemployment rate is 2.0%, which is pretty low. The suburbs are where most families end up. The weather takes some getting used to. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. People here are genuinely friendly, not just surface-level. Night life is decent if you know the right spots.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.

I'm a writer who relocated here from LA about 8 years ago. The main reasons were retirement and cost of living.

Pros I've experienced:
- Friendly community, easy to meet people
- Strong job market in several industries
- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Limited high-paying job options
- Bugs and humidity in summer

Financially, we've found it solid compared to where we came from. Older homes are where the value is. Groceries are growing, gas is decent.

Socially, it was the best decision I ever made. Good luck with whatever you decide..

Bought a house here in 2021 and the quality of life is solid. Property values have gone about the same since then.

I've lived in Midtown for about 11 years now, so I can give you a pretty detailed perspective.

I love the pace of life here. When I first moved here from Phoenix, I was surprised by school system. It took some adjustment but now I wouldn't trade it.

A few things worth knowing:
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Good schools in most areas
- The cultural scene scene is underrated

The downsides:
- Rising rent and home prices
- Urban sprawl is real

Overall I'd rate it 9/10 for young professionals. Give it a chance - it might surprise you..
