Hey folks, We're a young couple and It's a a smaller city city with about 66,247 people. The unemployment rate is 1.7%, which is pretty low. Household incomes average around $61,929 in Oshkosh. It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. The weather takes some getting used to. It's not perfect, but the community is solid. The weather takes some getting used to. The school system varies a lot by neighborhood. There's a real sense of community in certain neighborhoods. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a teacher who relocated here from Austin about 1 years ago. The main reasons were quality of life and work.
Pros I've experienced:
- Great outdoor activities nearby
- Growing food and restaurant scene
- Diverse dining options
Cons that are real:
- Limited public transit options
- Chain restaurants dominate
Financially, we've found it surprisingly good compared to where we came from. Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. Groceries are competitive, gas is solid.
Socially, I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. Would recommend to anyone considering it..

Used to live on the Old Town side, now on the Greenfield side. Completely different vibe. I love the pace of life here.

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are hit or miss, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

Weather-wise, the summers are surprisingly good and winters are reasonable. You get used to it after the first year.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a nurse, 32, moved here 7 years ago from San Francisco. I've lived in Springfield and Meadowbrook, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Active local events and festivals
2. Close to major attractions
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally decent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Can feel isolated
2. Homeless population growing downtown
3. The public transit situation is developing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Springfield: Great for remote workers. average vibes, walkable.
- Meadowbrook: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from San Francisco, everything felt solid. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are competitive. Gas is developing. You can live comfortably on $40K-$80K here.
**Final verdict:**
Feel free to reach out with questions.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

I've been living here for 7 years and I'd say it's improved dramatically in recent years. The housing market is decent compared to other places I've lived. Overall No regrets on my end..

Gonna give a different perspective here since most replies seem challenging.
I've been here 15 years and I wouldn't want to live anywhere else right now. The thing nobody mentions is traffic. It's growing and it affects daily life more than you'd think.
That said, the job market is legit. And if you're into photography, this place is solid.
Neighborhood matters A LOT here. The Greenfield side vs the Meadowbrook side are basically different cities. Make sure you visit both before deciding.
It's not for everyone but it works for us..

Hot take but the quality of life is solid. I know a lot of people disagree but after 12 years here, that's my honest assessment.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.
If you value safety, you'll love it. The healthcare is genuinely solid and I've found I love the pace of life here. My neighborhood (North) is growing and I feel safe walking around at night.
But if you're coming from Miami, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.
My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.
