Longtime lurker here, My family moved here when I was a kid. With a population of 66,247, Oshkosh is a smaller city. Night life is decent if you know the right spots. What neighborhoods would you suggest? It's a very car-dependent city, for better or worse. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. Traffic can be rough during rush hour, no sugarcoating that.

Not gonna lie, the first year was rough. But once you find your neighborhood and your people, I love the pace of life here. No regrets on my end..

From a safety perspective, it really depends on the area. Some neighborhoods are underrated, others not so much. Do your research on specific streets.

OK I'm going to write a proper review because I've seen too many incomplete answers.
Background: I'm a lawyer, 48, moved here 3 years ago from Pittsburgh. I've lived in Fairview and South, and traveled to most parts of the metro.
**What I love:**
1. Good schools in most areas
2. Strong job market in several industries
3. Good airport with direct flights
4. The people are generally excellent - I found my community within the first year
**What I don't love:**
1. Property taxes are high
2. Can feel isolated
3. The weather situation is growing and doesn't seem to be improving
**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for remote workers. tough vibes, walkable.
- South: More affordable, family-friendly.
**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.
**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Pittsburgh, everything felt pretty good. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are growing. Gas is growing. You can live comfortably on $60K-$100K here.
**Final verdict:**
Good luck with whatever you decide.. It's not perfect - nowhere is - but for the price point and quality of life, it's hard to beat. DM me if you have specific questions.

Came here for quality of life and stayed because it was the best decision I ever made. The dating scene is honestly excellent and I don't see that changing anytime soon.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 9 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:
Housing: Buying is tough right now, renting is more reasonable. We're paying /mo for a 2-bed in Riverside. It's underrated for what you get.
Jobs: The market is manageable right now, especially in consulting. If you're in tech you might struggle.
People: Generally tough. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.
Food: underrated. Tons of options if you like sushi.
Your mileage may vary depending on what you're looking for..

If you're remote, this place is great for cost of living. I have mixed feelings honestly. Internet is underrated in most areas.

Great question. I'll try to be comprehensive here.
I'm a social worker who relocated here from LA about 7 years ago. The main reasons were a fresh start and my partner's job.
Pros I've experienced:
- Good schools in most areas
- Affordable housing options
- Good airport with direct flights
Cons that are real:
- Not very walkable outside downtown
- Road conditions need improvement
Financially, we've found it excellent compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are developing, gas is challenging.
Socially, I'm still on the fence after all this time. Good luck with whatever you decide..
