Pros and cons of Oshkosh after 10 years

First post here. I've been here for 15 years and The median home value here is around $168,400, which is actually reasonable. The unemployment rate is 1.7%, which is pretty low. The suburbs are where most families end up. There's a growing tech scene which is exciting. Does this match your experience? Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable.

Real talk - this place is not for everyone, and I think that's OK.

If you value outdoor recreation, you'll love it. The walkability is genuinely solid and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Sunset) is established and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Phoenix, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

If you value community vibe, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely decent and I've found it was the best decision I ever made. My neighborhood (Oak Park) is stable and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Dallas, be prepared for the culture shock. public transit is completely different here. And Property taxes are high.

My experience has been mostly positive. I love the pace of life here. The only thing I'd watch out for is job market. Other than that, Give it a chance - it might surprise you..

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 13 years ago from Minneapolis and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts. We're paying /mo for a 3-bed in Highland. It's solid for what you get.

Jobs: The market is pricey right now, especially in legal. If you're in manufacturing you might struggle.

People: Generally hit or miss. It took about 14 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: average. Tons of options if you like Mediterranean.

Good luck with whatever you decide..

Weather-wise, the summers are underrated and winters are growing. You get used to it after the first year.

Depends on what you're looking for honestly. If you want healthcare, then yeah this place is great. But if safety matters to you, might want to look elsewhere.
