Affordable areas near Oswego?

First post here. My partner and I are Homes are going for about $319,000 on average. You can expect to pay around $1,823 for rent here. Public transit needs a lot of work honestly. It's changing fast -some good, some not so much. The parks and outdoor areas are a huge plus. Cost of living is definitely rising, but still manageable. 3. The cultural scene situation is reasonable and doesn't seem to be improving

**Neighborhoods I'd recommend:**
- Fairview: Great for families. decent vibes, walkable.
- Cedar Grove: More affordable, family-friendly.

**Neighborhoods I'd avoid:**
- Without naming names, stay away from areas east of downtown until you know the city better.

**Cost comparison:**
Coming from Denver, everything felt challenging. Rent is about /mo. Groceries are affordable. Gas is stable. You can live comfortably on $60K-$110K here.

I've been in Sunset for 9 years. Moved from Atlanta for a job opportunity. Here's my honest, detailed take:

**Housing:**
The market right now is hit or miss. We bought in 2018 at k and it's now worth up a bit than that. If you're renting, expect /mo for a decent 1-bed in a safe area. It's gotten pricier but still beats the coasts.

**Employment:**
education is strong here. real estate is hit or miss. If you're remote, you'll love the cost of living. Average salaries are reasonable for the area.

**Quality of Life:**
it's been a really good experience overall. The outdoor scene is pretty good - we have ski resorts within easy driving distance. Dining has gotten so much better in the past few years.

**Schools (if relevant):**
Varies hugely by district. Sunset schools are challenging. If you have kids, this should be your number one factor in choosing a neighborhood.

**The Bad:**
I'd be lying if I said everything is great. Bugs and humidity in summer. Far from beaches/mountains. And school system can be frustrating.

**Bottom line:**

If you value housing market, you'll love it. The dating scene is genuinely excellent and I've found I genuinely enjoy living here. My neighborhood (Fairview) is competitive and I feel safe walking around at night.

But if you're coming from Nashville, be prepared for the culture shock. food scene is completely different here. And Nightlife is limited.

My advice would be to visit for at least a week before committing. Rent first, don't buy. And explore multiple neighborhoods - they're all different.

OK so I've been meaning to write this for a while. I moved here 6 years ago from LA and here's my honest breakdown:

Housing: If you look outside the main areas you can find deals. We're paying /mo for a 1-bed in North. It's underrated for what you get.

Jobs: The market is reasonable right now, especially in retail. If you're in retail you might struggle.

People: Generally solid. It took about 12 months to build a solid friend group.

Food: excellent. Tons of options if you like Southern.

No regrets on my end..

Pros I've experienced:

- Good airport with direct flights

Cons that are real:
- Nightlife is limited
- Chain restaurants dominate

Financially, we've found it challenging compared to where we came from. Lots of new construction which should help. Groceries are reasonable, gas is decent.
